ABOUT COP31

What is at stake at COP31

COP31 will take place from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Türkiye, which will host the conference and lead its action agenda, while Australia will preside over the negotiations. This year's discussions will focus on turning climate commitments into action, with key priorities including stronger national climate plans, the Global Goal on Adaptation, a just transition and the financing needed to deliver on these commitments.

For islands, COP31 is an opportunity to shape the global climate agenda and advance solutions grounded in their own experiences and priorities. Island nations and territories are developing innovative approaches to renewable energy, climate adaptation, ocean governance and sustainable economic development. Their experience offers valuable lessons for the wider international community, while their leadership is essential to ensuring that global commitments translate into meaningful action across different contexts.

Island Innovation will be in Antalya to connect island leaders, policymakers, experts and partners, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and solutions, and strengthen the presence of island perspectives in global climate discussions.

Supporting our Partners at COP31

We help island programmes carry their work into the rooms where international decisions are made.

Green Overseas

Green Overseas closed its programme in Paris in early November. A week later, its results arrive in Antalya.

Green Overseas supports climate action across the Overseas Countries and Territories.

Description to be added soon

Island Innovation supports Green Overseas in turning the conclusions of its Closing and Capitalisation Forum into participation and visibility at COP31. Four things this is meant to achieve:

See the Green Overseas sessions →
1

Stronger OCT representation

OCT representatives put their priorities on climate finance, energy transition and adaptation directly in front of decision-makers, funders and journalists in Antalya.

2

Greater international visibility

Coverage in Caribbean, Pacific and European media, with placements that carry Green Overseas achievements and OCT perspectives to audiences beyond the conference.

3

A visible Green Overseas presence

A dedicated side event, pursued with COP31 partners, connecting programme results with policymakers, practitioners and international stakeholders.

4

Continuity beyond COP31

Documented participation, communications results and follow-up opportunities that carry the Forum's conclusions forward, with climate finance as the priority thread.

Participants in a Cabo Verde climate diplomacy and negotiation workshop

Cabo Verde: Strengthening Climate Diplomacy and Negotiation Capacity

Island Innovation is supporting Cabo Verde in strengthening its climate diplomacy strategy and building the capacity of national stakeholders to engage effectively in international climate negotiations.

With LuxDev and national counterparts, we are developing Cabo Verde’s National Climate Diplomacy Strategy for 2026 to 2027 and delivering practical negotiation training. The work builds on the country’s experience in coalitions such as AOSIS and the African Group.

Ahead of COP31 we are supporting national negotiating positions, thematic briefings and technical preparation for the delegation. After Antalya, the lessons from the negotiations feed into the final strategy, an implementation plan and tools for future negotiations.
